This week was quite a good week as far as learning goes. It was jam packed with info in each little bit of progress made on my Pecha Kucha presentation. I learned all about thinking outside the box for sources, connecting two books to things other than books, and how to put together a presentation without using any words.
My presentation being on mental health turned out to be a lot more interesting than I thought before I started learning about it. I was able to contact my aunt who has been a clinical mental health specialist for about twenty years. I had an interview planned that was even longer than my presentation. I had to a lot of information from my presentation and there was some pretty useful information in there. She had a lot to say on the subject. In her years she had learned a lot about people, she recommends that everyone get a therapist, regardless if they have a specific issue or not. She also explained that one of the main solutions to people's problems is looking at their past and trying to understand it objectively and not let it control you.
Connecting two pieces of literature is not a new idea in high school english, we have been doing this since freshmen year. However, this time is a little different because we got to choose our own subjects, which made the project a lot more exciting. Getting to explore a hypothesis based on two books is excellent, especially for the scientific part of my brain. This feels like one of the more useful lessons in AP Lit, considering humans make connections all of the time.
The Pecha Kucha itself was not a difficult thing to make. It was some related images on a slideshow. I spent most time on making sure I could deliver the presentation well. This week was spent making sure I was a master of the subject so that I had even more information than I needed. This helped make me relaxed for the presentation, feeling that I was qualified to teach a lesson on what I had studied.
