A parable is a story that teaches a lesson. The story is called "Before the Law." In the story, a man walks up to the gate of the law. There is a gatekeeper that does not allow him to go through. The man is told that there are more dangers on the inside and that the gatekeeper will let him in when he is ready. The man waits until he withers away, never reaching the inside of the law.
This story is about people challenging the system. If you do not try, nothing will change. The man never gets inside the gate because he never attempts to defy the gatekeeper. You have to break the law to change it. In order for things to change, you cannot just contemplate change. In order for a law to be brought to light as unjust, it must be challenged and broken. When people have a good reason they stand up for what they believe in and walk through the gates of the law. Many times people will not get they what they want and just as many times people get more than they asked for. People get punished for breaking the law, and they sometimes have to face even more gatekeepers and delve deeper into the law to get what they want. In other cases, people get to that light on the other side of the gate, they make that change that they want to see in the world happen.
In Antigone, Antigone is faced with the gatekeeper when her brother is not allowed to be buried. She decides to challenge the law and give him a proper burial. She is then met with more challenges, most notably her execution. Antigone believes that her life purpose will be fulfilled if she breaks the law, and comes to the conclusion that any punishment is worth it.
