lAfter many weeks of working diligently on our shakespeare project we are finally finished. We get the opportunity to share what we've learned about our critical theory and how it relates to our story, Macbeth. Getting a better idea of what existentialist theory is and how we can analyze themes and ideas through its lens.
Existentialist theory is especially interesting because writers in Shakespeare's time would be hung for expressing existentialist beliefs. The ideas and themes that involve existentialist theory go against the themes of christianity that were very prominent in that time period. I think it is very interesting that despite this, Shakespeare' s Macbeth still contains themes of fighting existentialist versus religion.
This week I also learned about how to put together a presentation and divide work between all members based on their work ethic. It is a lot easier to get work done when you understand at the beginning which members are going to do which amount of work. Understanding the group dynamic is an important part of making a presentation work and getting the job done before the due date.
This week is also the first free response essay to a novel we've had in a while. I got to reread one of my favorite stories One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. After I had read it for the first time I was stunned. It was the first time I had felt my intellect tingled by thoughts that I had experienced while reading a book. I think the inclusion of the fog over the mental institution is one of the most genius writing strokes I've ever found on my own. I was so into the book that I found myself getting lost in the fog thinking about how the story fit together, I just had to read it again to see what I missed.
