Hey, now that you know that the derivative is the slope of the tangent at any point, let's mess with it. This week was all about shortcuts and different rules that relate a function and it's derivative. These rules are like any other rules and have been added to the algebra tool belt. The hardest part about this week, is that these rules are can make things that are easy much harder. For example, once we had first learned the product rule, I used that every chance I had, even when you could simply see that you did not need it to find the derivative.
The product rule and the power rule are this weeks most valuable lessons. These were pretty easy to understand, and pretty difficult to mess up in practice. If there is an Algebra III, this is what I imagine it would be like. We are learning so much about functions that pretty soon I'll be able to write a paper describing all of the parts of a function and what they all mean.
